Plaid Leader Announces Elin Jones as Deputy


Plaid Cymru Leader Leanne Wood AM has announced that Ceredigion AM, Elin Jones has been appointed as her Deputy Leader of the party’s group in the National Assembly.

Ms Jones was nominated for the position by Leanne and she accepted the role following a vote at the party’s group meeting at the National Assembly earlier today.

Elin and fellow Plaid Cymru elected member Jonathan Edwards MP will be nominated to join Leanne’s Leader’s Team which will play an important role in ensuring effective direction for the whole party in the future.

Plaid Leader Leanne Wood AM said:

"Elin is one of the National Assembly’s sharpest and most able members and she is held in high regard not only by her fellow Plaid Cymru AMs, but by AMs from other parties too. Elin and I have worked closely together since I was elected Leader earlier this year, and as expected she has supported me every step of the way since our leadership contest.  I’m very pleased she has accepted my nomination to be Deputy Leader of our group and I look forward to working ever-more closely with her in the coming months."

Plaid Cymru Deputy Leader in the National Assembly, Elin Jones AM said:

"It’s a great pleasure for me to accept the role as Leanne’s Deputy here in the Assembly.  It is an honour not only to be nominated by our party leader, but to receive the unanimous support of our group.  Along with continuing to campaign for the future of Wales’ Health Service as our party’s Health Spokesperson, I intend to focus my efforts towards achieving Plaid’s goal of improving the economic prospects of our nation."
