Unemployment at recession levels

Labour and Tories risking a generation of deprivation

Plaid Cymru economy spokesperson, Alun Ffred Jones AM has said that new unemployment statistics vindicate Plaid’s calls for action on the economy:

“These new figures show that unemployment in Wales has now hit 9.3% - as bad as it was at the height of the recession.  Plaid Cymru has consistently warned that the communities of Wales are facing a severe and deepening crisis and these figures illustrate that this is the case.  Worse still, the alarming rise in youth unemployment doesn’t just point to a crisis in the here and now, it means that problems are being stored up for the future, risking the creation of a generation of deprivation.

“The reality behind these figures is that Labour has sat back since forming the Welsh Government and allowed this crisis to develop and deepen. Plaid Cymru is committed to continuing to press Labour to bring forward capital investment in order to create jobs and introduce emergency measures to tackle this economic crisis.
