Plaid Cymru respond to job losses at Newport’s Tata Plant

Following an announcement by Tata Steel that it is to shed 70 jobs at its Newport plant, Plaid Cymru Assembly Member for the South East Jocelyn Davies said:

“This announcement is obviously a huge blow to the workers at Tata and their families. I understand they have been through several restructuring processes in a bid to overcome the current economic climate and I am saddened by the fact that the company has decided to shed 70 jobs here. This announcement is yet further evidence that both the ConDem UK and Labour Welsh governments are failing to protect jobs in Wales. I reiterate Plaid Cymru’s calls for a change of course in economic policy to one that prioritises jobs and growth instead of the current obsession with deficit reduction. Labour in Cardiff Bay also need to take a look at themselves and ask them whether they are delivering on their number one election promise to ‘stand up for Wales’ and protect our communities from the ConDem government.

“They appear as ineffective now as they ever have done.”
