Plaid Cymru calls for Welsh GDP figures

Plaid Cymru AMs Rhodri Glyn Thomas and Leanne Wood have called for GDP figures to be published alongside UK wide figures.  Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM called on the First Minister to ensure that figures for Wales are published in order to be able to assess the performance of the Welsh economy.  Plaid Cymru AM for South Wales Central, Leanne Wood, argued that in order to have a true picture of the outlook for the Welsh economy it is essential that Welsh GDP figures are made available.

Plaid Cymru AM for South Wales Central, Leanne Wood, said:

“The GDP figures published this week provided some small relief on a UK wide basis.  However these figures are not an accurate indication of how things are looking on a Welsh level.  The reality is that the outlook for the Welsh economy is far from rosy and it is important that we have indicators on a Welsh level in order to push the Welsh government to work to address this.”

Plaid Cymru AM for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr, Rhodri Glyn Thomas AM, added:

“Plaid Cymru has been warning for months that the economic crisis here in Wales is worsening and yet the Labour government has consistently failed to act.  Instead Labour Ministers are delaying capital projects which would have created jobs and stimulated the economy.  We want to see Welsh GDP figures published at the same time as the UK figures, including figures by sector, as part of a package of economic indicators.”
