WOMEX comes to Wales – Plaid's work in Government still delivering

Plaid Cymru welcomes announcement of successful Cardiff bid

The announcement that Cardiff’s bid to host WOMEX in 2013 has been described as great news for Cardiff and great news for Wales. Plaid Cymru heritage spokesperson, Bethan Jenkins AM said that hosting the event will bring a wealth of opportunities not only to the capital city but to the Welsh nation as a whole.

Plaid Cymru AM for Arfon, Alun Ffred Jones, who worked on the bid during his time as Heritage Minister added that team work and collaboration had been key to the success of the bid.

WOMEX – the world music expo – is described as the most important international professional market of world music. It is an international fair that brings together professionals from the worlds of folk, roots, ethnic and traditional music and also includes concerts, conferences and documentary films. The event also contributes to networking as an effective means of promoting music and culture of all kinds across boundaries.

Plaid Cymru Heritage Spokesperson, Bethan Jenkins AM, said:

Hosting this prestigious event brings with it a whole host of opportunities both economic and cultural. WOMEX will bring thousands of people to Cardiff and it will be a fantastic opportunity for Welsh musicians and the Welsh music industry.”

Plaid Cymru AM for Arfon, Alun Ffred Jones, who worked on the bid during his time as Heritage Minister added:

During my time as Heritage Minister in the One Wales government I was very impressed by the professionalism and drive of the Welsh partners dealing with WOMEX. I was very pleased to be able to lead the support of the One Wales government for the bid, and be part of this team. This is great news for Cardiff and great news for Wales.”
