Support for International Day of the Disappeared

Plaid Cymru’s Equalities spokesperson has pledged his support for this year's International Day of the Disappeared. Lindsay Whittle AM says the event that takes place today is another important reminder of the human rights struggles that continue throughout the world.

The International Day of the Disappeared is an opportunity to highlight the work of institutions such as Amnesty international in tackling secret imprisonment, increase public awareness, and to call for donations and volunteers.

Lindsay Whittle AM said:

“International Day of the Disappeared is an important event to recognise some of the appalling and unjust imprisonments that take place across the world.

“ There are some excellent organisations such as Amnesty International and the Red Cross that do fantastic work in raising awareness of these terrible situations. This event is a good opportunity to pay tribute to their work and help to raise donations and volunteer to aid in those efforts.

“While the vast majority of us in Wales are fortunate enough to never really understand some of the atrocities that take place in the world we still have a role to play in highlighting them.”
