Looking after your eyes: Plaid’s Arfon candidate marks National Eye Health Week

As part of activity to mark National Eye Health Week, Plaid Cymru's Arfon candidate Alun Ffred Jones today (Tuesday) visited a local optometric practice in Bangor.

Mr Jones met with the COO of Optometry Wales, the chair of the North Wales Regional Optometric Committee and local optometrists at Gofal Llygaid Bangor Eye Care on Bangor High Street.

Mr Jones said:

"Plaid knows that more needs to be done to boost people's awareness about the importance of looking after your eyes.

"Services provided by optometrists across Wales are invaluable. That's why we've promised to promote good eye care and eliminate avoidable sight loss by investing in Eye Clinic Liaison Officers across Wales and enhancing rehabilitation provision.

"With more than half of all sight loss in the UK being recognised as avoidable, it is so important that we tackle this issue here in Wales."

Practice owner and Optometrist Helen Pickford of Gofal Llygaid Bangor Eye care said:

"Regular eye examinations are an important health check-up and can play a vital role in the detection of various health conditions ranging from glaucoma to potential brain tumours.

"We are proud to have Alun visiting us as part of our commitment to this new awareness campaign. We hope that his visit will encourage as many people as possible to have regular eye examinations."
