Plaid Cymru demands UK governments funding review includes Barnett reform

Today's announcement by Nick Clegg that the Westminster coalition Government wishes to set up a Calman-style commission for Wales which may not include reform the discredited Barnett formula has been attacked by Plaid Cymru as a complete shambles.
The announcement will come as a further embarrassment to his party in Wales as they gather for their conference in Cardiff this weekend.
Plaid's Director of Communications Elin Jones AM said that her party wishes to see more financial responsibility brought to our Assembly but that must include a system that gives Wales its fair share in the first place.
Plaid's Director of Communications Elin Jones AM said:
"A credible commission on Wales' funding would need to look at Wales' funding in its entirety, yet Clegg's announcement today suggests that this commission will be completely discredited and flawed from the outset.
"Plaid Cymru demands that any legitimate Calman-style funding commission should include full reform of the outdated Barnett system.
"There is now clear political consensus in Wales which agrees with the findings of the first Holtham Commission report that shows Wales' is unfairly funded.
"This year's budget for Wales is already £1.4bn less than it should be thanks to Labour failures to change the system over their thirteen years in Government and a continuation of this policy by the current Westminster Government.
"The fact that full Barnett review is supported by the Conservatives and Lib Dems in Wales but nothing is happening at a UK level shows exactly how little influence they are having on their Westminster colleagues.
"This morning's announcement will come as a further embarrassment to their Welsh colleagues as they gather for their conference in Cardiff."
