Ieuan Wyn Jones AM is an Assembly Member for Ynys Môn, Plaid Cymru’s Leader and Deputy First Minister of Wales.

He was first elected in 1999 as an AM for Ynys Môn having served as an MP since 1987. He was born in 1949 and was educated at Liverpool Polytechnic College. Before being elected, he worked as a solicitor.

Ieuan Wyn Jones was Chair of the Party between 1980-82 and 1990-1992. He was also responsible, as Campaigns Director, for the party’s electoral success in 1999.

His political interests are many and varied but he has a special interest in health and education, and also serves as the Minister for Economic Development and Transport. He became a member of the Eisteddfod Gorsedd in 2001 and was made a fellow of the University of Wales, Bangor in 2009. Ieuan speaks Welsh and English. He enjoys spending time looking into local history and also enjoys walking and sports.
