Elin Jones

Born in 1966, Elin Jones was raised on a farm in Llanwnnen, near Lampeter. She attended Llanwnnen Primary School and Lampeter High School. After graduating in Cardiff University with a BSc in Economics she received MSc in Aberystwyth University studying Rural Economics. In the past, Elin has worked as an Economic Development Officer for the Rural Wales Development Board. She has also been director of Radio Ceredigion and Wes Glei Cyf television production company.

Elin served on the Aberystwyth Town Council from 1992 to 1999 and became Aberystwyth's youngest mayor in 1997-98. Elin was also Plaid Cymru's National Chair between 2000 and 2002.

In the first ever National Assembly elections, held in 1999, Elin was voted Ceredigion's new Assembly Member. During the first years, Elin was Plaid Cymru's spokesperson on rural issues and economic development. On the 9 July 2022 the One Wales Government was established. Elin was appointed the Minister for Rural Affairs. Elin's political interest include developing the rural economy and the Welsh language.

In 2009, Elin received success winning the Britain's Farming Champion Award by the Farmers Weekly as well as Assembly Member of the Year.

Elin lives in Aberystwyth and enjoys music, film and reading, she was also a member of Cwlwm, Welsh music group. She is also a member of Aberystwyth's ABC choir.
