Dafydd Trystan is the Plaid Cymru candidate for Cynon Valley constituency in the Welsh General Election to be held on the 5th May 2011. He can be contacted via e-mail DafyddTrystan@plaidcymru.org 


Aberdare-born Dr Dafydd Trystan Davies attended Aberdare Welsh School, Penderyn Primary School and Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen.

He gained a first class honours degree in international politics at Aberystwyth University and was awarded a PhD for his thesis on the Welsh Economy and Globalisation.

A former university lecturer and Chief Executive of Plaid Cymru, he is now development manager for Welsh-medium higher education throughout Wales.

Dr Davies is married to Lisa Turnbull, who comes from Milton Keynes and who is a researcher in health policy.

He stood in Cynon Valley in the General Election, gaining a 9% swing for Plaid from Labour. He is also the national treasurer of Plaid Cymru and played a major role in the successful Yes for Wales campaign.

A keen runner and cyclist, he is a regular competitor in the Nos Galan races in Mountain Ash and completed last year's Snowdonia Marathon.

He is Chairman of Cycle Training Wales – a social enterprise that has been nominated for a number of new business awards, and a member of the advisory board of Sustrans, the sustainable transport organisation.
