Alun Ffred Jones

Alun Ffred Jones is the Plaid Cymru candidate for Arfon constituency in the Welsh National Election to be held on the 5th May 2011. He can be contacted via e-mail at AlunFfredJones@plaidcymru.org 

Alun Ffred Jones inherited his middle name from his grandfather, the Rev Fred Jones, one of six men who met in Pwllheli yn 1925 to form the Welsh Nationalist Party, later Plaid Cymru.

Alun Ffred was born in Brynaman and brought up mainly in Llanuwchllyn. He graduated in Welsh at Bangor and taught in Deeside and Mold where he headed the Welsh department at Ysgol Maes Garmon, before switching to a career in television. He was a journalist at HTV and became a director of Nant Films, producing popular dramas and series including the football classic C'mon Midffild.

He was a member of Arfon District Council and leader of Gwynedd County Council before his election as AM for Caernarfon in 2003. He won the new Arfon seat in 2007 and is Heritage Minister in the coalition government since 2008.

His interests include the theatre and sport, and he is a keen cyclist.
